Highlights

  • We normally stay in swanky B&Bs but, as Steve is in danger of becoming the world's first "Airmiles Billionaire", we are forced to rough it in luxury rooms at the 5 Star Radisson Blu !
  • Despite being warned of our arrival, the University Alumni Association choose not to do an article on us. Seems that they prefer articles on Nobel winning Scientists and ways to combat global warming - some people have NO taste !

  • The Circus Tavern pub is still open and is now on the tourist trail for Americans as (apparently) the smallest pub in Europe.
  • Great to go back to the Royal Exchange Theatre after all these years
  • Nigel and I manage to find a late Kebab shop on Friday night - Pete and Steve just head for the hotel bar...
  • Pete does his volunteering bit by volunteering to be a one legged man with a Stovepipe Hat at the NMSI (you had to be there really)

  • Quotes

Steve(to the rest of us): "I have no idea how old you guys are but I am in my late thirties" Steve : “One of the guys at my squash club had a heart attack whilst I was there. It was a good place to have a heart attack thoughas there were lots of people around - one of whom is a surgeon"
David: "So he was Ok then ?"
    Steve: "No - he died"

Pete (at the Hotel Bar at 12.30am): "I hardly ever drink these days and I cant remember anything about the last pub so.. two double whiskys please" !

David:"There are BOUND to be some chippys on Cross Street"
David (after going to the end of Cross Street): "There are BOUND to be some Chippys on Oxford Street"
David (after going to the end of Oxford Street) "Steve - can you get some crisps in the next pub ?"

The Concierge at the Hotel: "I would LOVE to take a photograph of you four guys - as you are the best dressed bunch I have ever seen in Manchester"
The Concierge's guide dog: "I agree"
